Great for toddlers and preschoolers July 7, 2008 My oldest son received a Little Touch LeapPad for his 2nd birthday. When he first played with it he didn't understand how to make it work (pushing the green "go" circle on the side of the page, etc.) and needed my help. Over the next two years he played with it off and on, and slowly began to get better at navigating the pages.
He is now 4 1/2 and this has become his favorite toy. He is an expert at controlling all aspects of it. I could go on and on about how much he has learned using this product. He loves 'Lulu the Letter Spinning Spider" book, which has effortlessly taught him his letters and letter sounds, in a fun and interactive way. His 2 year old brother loves it too, and sometimes they fight over who gets to control it. It gets hours and hours of use. It was great on a 4 hour road-trip this week and kept my son busy and happy the entire time.
Other favorite books are "Pooh Loves You," "Stella the Singing Songbird," and "Animal World."
People who are giving this less enthusiastic reviews seem to have younger children. I know the LeapPad is marketed for babies and toddlers, but give your child some time. Older children will love it.
I love that it is an engaging and educational toy. My kids don't watch TV, so this is a wonderful and exciting way for them to learn.
Great product May 11, 2008 My nephew didn't use it at first, was a little too young for it and just liked to chew on it. Would recommend for an older child that won't just chew on it espeically when they are first beginning to talk this is a big helper. Really good price too.
THanks
Great toy!! March 27, 2008 I bought this for my 9 month ols son, along with most of the books out at that time. It was awesome. It kept him entertained and learning at the same time. I was able to use it as a reinforcement to what I was teaching him already (shapes, colors, letters, etc). By the age of two, we moved to the next stage (My first leadpad) because he had mastered the books and mechanics of this one.
Great product - more for toddlers than infants January 2, 2008 I purchased this product as a gift for my 8 month old son. I think over time he will really grow to love this toy but right now its too advanced for him. He is very interested in books so I thought that this would be great for him at this stage but its just not interesting him yet. I'll pull it out of the box again in a couple months to try again.
Sturdy books! January 2, 2008 When we first opened the package and saw that the pages of the book that came with the leapfrog system was made of 'paper', we were quite concerned. Our children are both one year old and using all the muscle they have.....however, they have not yet been able to tear any pages or permanently damage the book in any way (yet). We're quite happy with the purchase.
