5 out of 5 stars Awesome customer service, Great product   August 13, 2008
I rarely write reviews but I had to comment on the fantastic customer service I received from Born Free. Like a lot of mothers, I recently switched from Avent to this BPA-free line of bottles by Born Free. I purchased 3 x 3 packs from a bricks and mortar retailer. The packets contained one venting system and a coupon for two more. The retailer was out of them and I am leaving for a trip at the end of the week. I emailed Born Free customer service. 48 hours later I am holding the vents in my hand, they also sent me some nipples, they overnighted everything (at their expense) so I could have them in time for my trip. I didn't know customer service like this existed any more. Overall, I am delighted with the product- fewer leaks than Avent, no concern about plastics, and my one year old took to the bottles like a duck to water. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Not too bad!   August 4, 2008
I traded in my Avent bottles for Born Free after the huge BPA news stories. I don't think I would have paid for them if I had to buy them all brand new at once, but since I was getting credit, I decided to try them.
I don't think the one extra valve piece is really that big of a deal - they're still less complicated than Dr. Brown's! I haven't had any leaking problems or melting problems (even in the dishwasher). I did have one crack when my daughter dropped it on a tile floor. I was lucky enough to be able to exchange it, but I would like them to be a little more sturdy -- especially now that my daughter is old enough to throw things she doesn't want! :)
Overall, I'm happy I made the decision to switch, and they've worked fine for our family. But $8-$10 a bottle? Seriously?

5 out of 5 stars Great product, great customer service!   August 3, 2008
I am a little puzzled by the most recent reviews of these Born Free bottles. I have had no problems at all with the bottle leaking except if I didn't screw the cap on well (although be careful not to screw the cap on TOO tightly - if you do that you can close off the venting system) While the 5 piece system is more effort to clean, it's well worth it as the venting system is superior to other bottles that we have used.

With regards to customer service, I contacted them last week via the form on their website (www.newbornfree.com) and received a response the next business day. The response was friendly and very informative and when the information provided did not solve my problem, they promptly mailed out replacement parts for me at no-cost. To be honest, I was a little shocked at how GREAT their customer service was - in a day and age of automated responses or outsourced customer service, this was a refreshing change!

Needless to say, we're going to buy the next level of nipples and move up to their 9 oz bottles when the time comes!

1 out of 5 stars Leaks like crazy and has annoying extra parts   July 23, 2008

These bottles, which are obviously selling well because of the Bisphenol-A issues, leak like crazy. All you have to do is tip the bottle sideways and the milk comes gushing out like crazy. Makes a huge and annoying sticky mess. My advice, if you must absolutely have these, is to use the Avent nipples on these bottles. They fit and they don't leak at all, even upside-down. The silicone nipple is not implicated in the Bisphenol problems. The Born Free bottles also have a silicone gasket and a plastic insert, making cleaning and filling the bottles very frustrating and unnecessarily complex. I am hoping someone else comes up with a better BSA-free bottle because these are just not working for me.

1 out of 5 stars Potentially dangerous...and worst customer service EVER!   July 21, 2008

I happily bought six of the larger BornFree bottles from Amazon, since I was looking for BPA-free products. The bottles morphed into unrecognizable white and crystallized blobs, one after the other (I stopped using them when this happened with the third one). They all started out with a small white mark near the mouth of the bottle, and did the bizarre morphing thing soon afterwards. I had the bottles in the microwave sterilizer with othrs (Dr. Brown and Avent), none one of which had any problems.

I've posted two photos of the blob (near the top with other customer images) because I am convinced that anything that could turn into THAT cannot be good for my baby. I would make the same case for any BornFree product.

The worst was that I could not get a response from the company. I wrote emails, I spoke to one of their customer service reps, wrote more emails...and nothing came of any of it. I then reported to the Better Business Bureau in their region (Louisiana), which wrote me back several weeks later to say that THEY had not gotten any response from the company either.

My daughter is the most precious thing in the world to me...would I trust her well-being to a company that produces a flawed product and THEN refuses to respond to legitimate concerns, even from the Better Business Bureau? HECK, NO! I would urge everyone to take care before buying this bottle.

Update: I have been quite happy with Dr. Brown's 8 oz Polypropylene Bottle - 3 Pack, which I've used for the past six months. They don't have the sparkly clear look of the other ones, but I can live with that, since they are BPA-free. I also see a lot of other BPA-free baby bottles on the market now and feel that potential users of BornFree have other alternatives to explore before going this route.
