Great Seat, but you get what you pay for. January 3, 2009 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I love this seat so much I purchased two. The first reason I love it is because it is so versatile with the 65lb 5 pt. harness to 100lb. booster. The second reason I love it, is for the price! The third reason is the reclining factor. The fourth reason is the cup holder.
What I don't like is the cheapness of the straps and buckles. they are just as safe but the Britax buckles are clearly better quality and of coarse that probably costs more, so to give us an awesome seat at an awesome price they had to scimp somewhere. Also, the connection between the childs crotch sucks, you have to fish it out every time the child sits down, and a 40lb. boy is not very helpful when trying to do so... they could have made it a little more user friendly... I think I am going to sew a piece of elastic on it so that it automatically goes back to the place that will make it easier to lock the child in.....
that's all... I love it, I will hopefully have it till my child is no longer in need of a carseat! yay!
So glad I purchased this seat! January 2, 2009 Our parked car was hit, so we had to replace my 6yr old's booster. I had been wanting to put him back in a five point harness. He was fine weight wise, but he's such a tall kid his torso height was too much for any other seat.
I was told that the Nautilus allowed for a torso height of 21" so I took a chance and ordered it. I figured if he was too tall for the five point we'd just put it in booster mode.
I was so happy when he tried it out, he's still got just a bit of room to go and might be able to stay in the five point until he's 7yr. He can buckle and unbuckle himself. He's even able to loosen the belts for when he wears a heavy winter coat, then tighten it back up. If you have an escape artist this might be a problem.
The seat is rather heavy, but that I like. I figure it will help it stay in place better. The head wrap is very soft for my son, but hard and feels strong from the outside of it. I feel confident that it will protect his head very well from the back and sides. My son says the seat is very comfortable and we both love the drink holder built into the arm.
I was so please I replaced a perfectly good convertible seat my 3yr old had been using to put him in a Nautilus too. He loves the little cubby holes in the arms. They are perfect for stashing small toys.
I found the LATCH instillation goes much smoother with the Nautilus then with our old seats. Removing it is a lot easier too. Our old seats had LATCH belts that were next to impossible to loosen.
We have not tried it as a booster yet, so I cant comment on that aspect. But from the little assembly I had to do, I think they will be great in that function as well.
They are wider then I had expected, and we did lose some room in the back seat so if you need to three in the back seat these might cause a problem.
Over all I'm VERY please with these seats. All the other Mom's now think I'm a car seat Nazi for putting my six year old back in a five point. But the piece of mind I have is worth a little teasing. ;O)
You child must be a year old December 31, 2008 0 out of 8 found this review helpful
The product description mentions a minimum height and weight which my 9 1/2-month old matches. However, when you read the instructions included in the box it adds the fact that your kid must be a year old. I guess I should've seen it coming since it's called a TODDLER car seet in the description (but not the title?). Bah.
Very Satisfied December 27, 2008 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
We needed a car seat for a three and a half year old who had outgrown her old Britax one for height reasons. We still wanted a five point harnass, but did not want to invest in a whole new several hundred dollar car seat as she will only need the harnass for another six months and she is the youngest. Therefore, this was great because it was only $40 or so more than a booster which we were going to have to buy anyway, and it functions great now with the harnass and easily converts to a traditional booster. It is also much more substantial and comfortable than the traditional boosters my older son has, but with that comes the fact that it is heavier. No issues with us on where the buckle is as some others had mentioned. Overall, this definitely filled a niche in the market for people like us with tall 3 year olds! We plan to buy a second for our other car.
Graco Nautilus 3-in1 Matrix December 26, 2008 Good buy for the price. Keeps your little one safe and secure while comfortable. Allows for growing with the child, with no need to replace at each stage of growth.
